Podcast vol.20 (by Boys Noize)

sid_loves_turbo201.jpg

Boys Noize has emerged this year as a top tier contender in the
heavyweight techno category along with Justice and Soulwax. His debut
album ‘Oi Oi Oi’, out now on Turbo / Last Gang records is one of the
biggest dance hits of the year and his remixes of Feist, Bloc Party,
and Kaiser Chiefs have asserted his crossover appeal.

Podcast vol.19 (by Jori Hulkkonen )

SidLovesTurbo 19

“Original” is a dangerous word in music…it’s something everyone throws around… but in my days I have known very few… and Jori is one of the last true electronic pioneers… never afraid to make a record everyone hates, and in the process he makes records that everyone ends up loving… and crucially HE loves. In this cookiecutter world of myspace profiles and generic soulless music Jori is a dying breed, an artist, and a real character who marches relentlessly to the sound of his own drums (and strings).”

Tiga

Jori has been with Turbo since the very beginning (Turbo 001!) but he’s just hitting his prime and has just delivered an incredible remix of Chromeo and has a new EP entitled ‘Rave 2.0′ coming out next week.

Podcast vol.15 (by Mike Mind)

sid_loves_turbo15

It’s a hectic job bringing Turbo back into the global spotlight, and as our dedicated listeners may have noticed, Sid Loves Turbo has seen delays as a result. I knew I had to pull in the reins and get some content together fast while finishing my next podcast, so I asked friend and Montreal DJ Mike Mind to give us his latest mix, complete with tracklist and artwork, thinking I would save time. What I didn’t take into account
was that Mike would give me a virtuosic, densely-layered mix with 21 tracks, and that it would be up to me to figure out where ‘Skoozbot’ ended and ‘Glass Candy’ begun… just putting the track markers in took me over an hour!!! and I’m the Power-User computer-whiz responsible for the Tiga / Turbo mainframe.

Next time you think you’ve been working hard, chew on this: Mike doesn’t sleep! He has been working continuously since he was 4 years old. While you were playing in the sandbox, he was counting grains of
sand, while you were taking 3 classes so you could have Fridays off he was 16 years old at Harvard, while you were getting high at a party last weekend, he was jacked up on black coffee studying drum layering, and while you were taking a lunch break yesterday he was eating a cigarette to get the edge he needed to EQ this mix.

Here’s the deal: the world can only ignore intelligence and diligence for so long… mark my words people, sooner or later, Mike Mind is going to the top, and it will be a well-deserved ascent, so if you’re smart, you’ll get your think on and be down with this Brain-mix.

Podcast vol.14 (by Matt Walsh)

Sidlovesturbo_14

Tiga heard Matt play at T Bar and thought he was great, so we asked him to do a podcast for us, and he was really sweet and grateful at the opportunity. A week later he came back to us with this dope mix of acid and disco - some unreleased new records (great new Juan Maclean!!) and some old gems (Don Quixote, where have you been all my life?), all kicked off by a classic ‘Screamadelica’ intro you’re about to hear. There are no obvious tracks, no ‘mash-up’ of no- brainer-bombs… just weird groovy records picked with passion and confidence…

This is an old-fashioned mix with the analog warmth of an all-vinyl set, put together with the cool knowledge of a myspace kid… a rare balance in today’s blog-o-sphere.
